The 35-year-old manager of the apartment complex in Oroklini was detained for a period of eight days, in which serious incidents occurred yesterday that resulted in the critical injury of a 27-year-old foreigner and the serious injury of a two-month-old infant. It is noted that illegal immigrants resided in the complex, most of them of African origin.

The suspect faces offences of conspiracy to commit a felony, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, causing grievous bodily harm and injury.

For years, Cyprus has struggled with electricity blackouts, high energy costs and a slow transition to renewables. Now, as officials debate a new law to protect solar panel owners from disconnections, a growing number of people are asking: Why stay connected to the grid at all?

The proposed law, recently backed by state agencies, would prevent authorities from shutting down solar panels used for personal electricity consumption when the grid gets overloaded due to lack of storage. The bill was a move welcomed by many, but there was a catch, households and businesses would have to pay for necessary technical modifications themselves.

President Nikos Christodoulides and American multinational corporation ExxonMobil’s vice president for global exploration John Ardill on Sunday met to discuss the next steps regarding the drilling for natural gas under the seabed off the coast of Cyprus, government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said.

ExxonMobil, alongside QatarEnergy, holds the rights to drill in Block 5 and Block 10 of the Republic of Cyprus’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ) .

It seems like the news changes daily. President Trump’s original January 20 executive order asked the State Department to identify countries where passengers to the U.S. may not be stringently examined and checked—to the degree that the U.S. would not admit them. Since then, there has been “credible reporting,” according to the Guardian, citing two Yale law professors’ emails, that nationals from targeted countries may be banned from entering the U.S. The professors Muneer Ahmad and Michael Wishnie urged students studying in those countries to consider returning to the U.S. right away or staying in the U.S. if they are already here. POLICE CAMPAIGN - SPEED LIMIT CHECKS 7-13 April

 

The Police announces a week of awareness and policing with intensified traffic checks throughout Cyprus, which will start tomorrow, Monday 07/04/2025 and will last until Sunday 13/04/2025. During this campaign, which will be carried out within the framework of our cooperation with the European Traffic Police Network ROADPOL, emphasis will be placed on carrying out speed limit checks, with the aim of preventing serious and fatal road collisions. Excessive speed is a very important factor in determining the outcome of a road collision and is considered one of the main causes of serious and fatal road collisions. Finally, it is noted that it was the 2nd cause of road deaths, at a rate of 12.6% during the three-year period 2021-2023, for which the most recent available statistical data is available.

BANK OF CYPRUS CAR AUCTION - 7 & 8 April

The Bank of Cyprus is auctioning more than 70 cars, in an auction that will take place on 7 and 8 April at 15.00 at the Auction Yard in Mosfiloti (12 Limassol Avenue, 7647 Mosfiloti, Larnaca).

Prices for cars start at €550  with brands ranging from Toyota to BMW, Audi and Jeep.

In the auction there will also be cars that are either simply immobilized, or were involved in an accident, at even lower prices.
